Collie

Located two hours’ drive from Perth, the small mining town of Collie boasts lakes, rivers, and bushland, with picturesque camping spots and hiking trails. The town is decorated with over 40 murals that celebrate its history, painted across shops and buildings. 

If you’re keen on kayaking, stand up paddling, or fishing, head to the nearby Stockton Lake and Black Diamond Lake to enjoy crystal clear waters. 

Mundaring Powerlines 

Known as one of Perth’s best 4WD tracks, Mundaring Powerlines makes for a great day out. The tracks include all types of terrain, like dust, sand, mud, rock and clay. 

We recommend starting early, because these tracks can take 3-5 hours to complete. They’re suitable for all ranges of 4WD skill level, but it’s best to avoid the muddiest tracks if you’re inexperienced. 

The tracks are only about 34kms from Perth, so are suitable for a day trip. 

Waroona

Just over an hour’s drive from Perth, the seaside town of Waroona is perfect for swimming, water-skiing, paddling, horse riding and bird watching. 

For 4WD enthusiasts, nearby Preston Beach, White Hills Beach and Tims Thicket are sure to please. The sand is quite soft, so you’ll need to decrease your tyre pressures. The beaches are also suitable for beginner 4WDers. 

If a day trip proves too short, you can also camp overnight at the Lake Navarino Holiday Park, Waroona Dam or Lane Poole Reserve.
