The Blue Mountains have some great 4wd tracks to explore. There’s also plenty of foodie fixes nearby, with quaint cafes, historic hotels, and local wineries. 

There’s so much to see in the Blue Mountains. If a day trip is too short, you can also camp overnight near the national park. 

Southern Highlands

Head to the NSW Southern Highlands region for rural towns and rolling hills, set to a backdrop of the state forest. Explore the towns to find vintage fashion, antiques, cafes, museums and historic buildings. It’s only one hour from Sydney, so it’s perfect for a day trip. 

Hunter Valley

The Hunter Valley region features lush countryside, nestled with restaurants and wineries. It’s the perfect place to unwind and explore at a leisurely pace. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy wandering through the valley. 

If you find the 2.5 hour drive from Sydney is too long for a day trip, you can also camp overnight. 

Royal National Park

Just an hour’s drive from Sydney, Royal National Park offers the ultimate bush escape. Experience 15 hectares of bushland, complete with 4wd tracks, cliff top walks and secret swimming spots. There are plenty of walking trails and caves to explore.

Royal National Park is also one of the best places near Sydney for stand up paddling. The tranquil waters of Cabbage Tree Basin are perfect for paddling, kayaking, fishing and swimming. It’s known as a paddler’s paradise.
